10 instagram-worthy places in the Algarve

The Algarve is a paradise for photography lovers - this is a region that hides idyllic locations, from golden sandy beaches to picturesque villages that can be visited all year round. Discover the top 10 Instagrammable places in the region:

1. Marinha Beach
Located near Lagoa, Praia da Marinha is famous for its golden cliffs and crystal-clear waters. The best photos are those that point to the cliffs sculpted by erosion and the natural arches that adorn the coast, creating a breathtaking backdrop.

2. Benagil Cave
One of the Algarve's most iconic attractions is the Benagil Cave, located in Lagoa and accessible by boat. This cave has a natural opening at the top that lets in light, creating a stunning effect. Capture unique photos here where the interior is illuminated by the sun.

3. Camilo Beach
Known for its steep steps, Praia do Camilo is an unmissable place to photograph: the jagged cliffs and rock formations make this beach a magical place!

4. Ponta da Piedade
The rock formations carved out by the sea at Ponta da Piedade offer breathtaking views. Take a boat trip through the caves passing under their natural arches and capture photos in this natural setting with the ocean in the background.

5. Old Town - Faro
The Old Town is the oldest part of Faro, whose Moorish origins are, as in other important Portuguese cities, marked in the fortified walls, the monumental arcades and the streets that imitate labyrinths. Stroll around and be amazed by the stories told by the heritage of the Algarve's capital.

6. Ria Formosa
This protected natural park is a paradise for nature and photography lovers; it stretches along 60 kilometres of Algarve coastline, between Garrão and Manta Rota beaches. Go for walks or boat trips and observe the beauty of the meandering channels, the marshes teeming with birds and the unspoilt islands that are home to a great diversity of wildlife.

7. Silves Castle
This medieval castle offers panoramic views with ancient walls, watchtowers and lush gardens surrounding it that are worthy of any camera lens.

8. Fóia - Monchique
Fóia is about 8km from the village of Monchique and is the highest point in the Algarve at 902 metres. Ideally, it should be visited between spring and summer so that you can see the beautiful landscapes of the Algarve mountains without the fog.

9. Cacela Velha
Cacela Velha is one of the smallest and best preserved villages in the Algarve. The charming village is located in front of the beach, which was a long peninsula until 2010, when a bar was opened and part of it became an island. The island is one of the barrier islands that form part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park and can be reached by boat from Sítio da Fábrica during the bathing season, or by crossing the wetlands on foot from the village at low tide. The village consists of the Mother Church of Cacela Velha, an 18th century fortress, some whitewashed houses and the marvellous panoramic view of the beach.

10. Sagres Fortress
The Sagres Fortress is a mystical and windy place, built in 1453 to protect the Portuguese coast. It is part of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park and has a complex biodiversity, both in terms of fauna and flora. The backdrop is enchanting, where you can hear the Atlantic Ocean lapping at the shore, bordered by the rocky cliffs of the area.
